Apple MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro was announced at the MacWorld Expo in San Francisco on January 10, 2006 . The original model had a 15" screen and a 17" model was released 4 months later. The MacBook Pro was initially criticized for a lack of connectivity ports and having less screen resolution in comparison to its predecessor. FireWire 800 and S-Video ports were removed from this model. Apple introduced MagSafe, a magnetic power connector designed to detach easily when yanked to prevent the MacBook Pro from being pulled off a desktop and landing on the floor.

The MacBook Pro's appearance is virtually unchanged from that of the PowerBook G4. Apple did add the iSight camera to the display bezel and relocated the AirPort antenna, . Aside from the missing FireWire and S-Video ports, much of the features of the MacBook Pro remain the same, including the ambient light sensor, back-lit keyboard, and sudden motion sensor. A new multi-touch trackpad was added to the 2008 revision.

Apple announced a new 15" MacBook Pro on October 14, 2008 and it featured a unibody construction with tapered sides similar to those of the MacBook Air. All of the MacBook Pro's ports were shifted to the left side of the case and the optical drive slot was on the right side, making the configuration the same as that of the MacBook. FireWire 800 was added and the DVI port was replaced with Apple's new Mini DisplayPort.

The unibody-construction MacBook Pro follows the styling of the iMac and the MacBook Air and is slightly thinner than preveous models. The screen now made of glass adn is glossy. The trackpad has also been enlarged and the button replaced, allowing for more room for scrolling and multi-touch gestures. The keys, still backlit, are now that of Apple's now-standard sunken keyboard with separated keys. The hard drive is now easily replaceable. The earlier MacBook Pro models , required a complete disassembly of the computer for a hard drive replacement.
