Apple iBook
The Apple iBook was developed and sold by Apple Computer, Inc. between 1999 and 2006. It was targeted at the consumer and education markets. The Apple iBook had fewer features and lower prices than the Apple PowerBook. Three distinct designs of the iBook were introduced during its lifetime. The first design which was known as the "Clamshell", was a major departure from portable computer designs at the time, due to its shape, bright colors and support for wireless networking. A second version which came out two years later abandoned the original clamshell form-factor in favor of a more traditional rectangular design. The case was a translucent white manufatured from polycarbonate. The third version, the iBook G4, was released in October of 2003 and Apple moved away fromthe translucent design elements and incorporated a slot-loading optical drive.
There are several ways to identify Apple iBook computers and their features.
The first distinguishing feature is color. The original iBooks are Blueberry, Tangerine, or Graphite.
The iBook - FireWire computers are Indigo, Key Lime, and Graphite and the white parts are more opaque than previous models.
The next distinguishing feature of iBook (FireWire) computers is the FireWire port which is next to the USB port.
The iBook - Dual USB and the later models of the Apple iBook are a different size and shape than earlier iBook computers.
The iBook G4 Computers have similar shapes as the iBook G3 models but they lack the translucent case finish or translucent keyboard as they have a more opaque finish.
The Original iBook Computers were supplied with 300 to 900 mhz cpus and the iBook G4 was available with 800mhz to 1.3 Ghz cpus.
